Cuc Phuong National Park

Cuc Phuong National Park is the largest national park in Vietnam as well as one of the most important sites for biodiversity in the country. This place is a large museum of botanical gardens, nature reserves, and rare zoos in Vietnam and around the world.

Cúc Phương National Park is the largest national park in Vietnam and one of the most important biodiversity hotspots in the country. Located approximately 45 km north of Ninh Bình province, it serves as a significant botanical garden, nature conservation area, and home to rare wildlife species in Vietnam and around the world.

This park is an ideal destination for both Vietnamese and international scientists to conduct important research on various plant and animal species. For tourists, the dry season from November to February is the best time to explore the park or take a walk to witness the impressive tropical forest and the rescue center for endangered species. But what else makes Cúc Phương National Park fascinating?

Situated on two limestone mountain ranges, Cúc Phương boasts a rich and diverse ecosystem. According to experts, the rocky outcrops in Cúc Phương preserve ancient traces and valuable anthropological evidence, including fossilized reptiles dating back 200-230 million years. The park is also home to 97 mammal species, notably the endangered langur, 2,000 vascular plant species, thousands of insect species, and some species listed in Vietnam’s Red Book of endangered species.

Visitors can also explore the unique “Ancient Man Cave,” covering an area of only about 30 square meters. Archaeologists have discovered three ancient graves buried 0.40 meters and 1.4 meters below the ground, providing evidence of early human inhabitants. To reach Cúc Phương from Hanoi, you can take a 3-4 hour road trip by bus, car, or motorbike.

When visiting Cúc Phương, don’t forget to explore by bicycle and kayak on Nhà Mạc Lake and Yên Quang Lake. Before your trip, make sure to pack essentials like a hat, sturdy hiking shoes, medication, bandages, food, and water.

Additionally, consider bringing binoculars for sightseeing and some anti-mosquito cream to protect yourself in the forest. After your exploration, you can indulge in local specialties such as mountain snails and mountain delicacies. Other tempting dishes include freshwater fish, grilled free-range chicken, and braised rice with Mường-style wine.

Cúc Phương National Park offers a unique opportunity to discover its rich botanical garden, natural conservation areas, and rare wildlife—a gift from nature to Vietnam.
