Châu Đốc

Châu Đốc, located in An Giang Province, is approximately 245 kilometers north of Ho Chi Minh City. It is often referred to as the “heart of the Mekong Delta.” Nowadays, Châu Đốc has become a familiar name for both domestic and international tourists.

The city is striving to make tourism a leading economic sector. One of its notable features is its rich history intertwined with extraordinary stories related to the Lady of the Sam Mountain (Bà Chúa Xứ Núi Sam) and significant events in the nation’s defense, such as the construction of the Vĩnh Tế Canal.

In addition, visitors can explore Châu Đốc’s culture through places like the Trà Sư cajuput forest, Tức Dụp Hill, and Tây An Pagoda. If you visit Châu Đốc in May or June, you can participate in the annual pilgrimage to the Lady of the Sam Mountain, celebrated at the Miếu Bà Chúa Xứ on Sam Mountain.

At the foot of Sam Mountain, you’ll find Tây An Pagoda. This temple is not only a place of pilgrimage and worship but also a famous tourist attraction in An Giang. Moreover, Châu Đốc is home to diverse ethnic communities, including the Cham, Hoa, and Khmer people, and it’s only a few kilometers from the Cambodian border.

For a deeper cultural experience, consider taking the Châu Giang ferry to Cồn Tiên and visiting the Cham community to learn about their customs, lifestyle, and traditions.
