Cái Bè

Cai Be is a mixed river-land urban area, with a typical ecological system in the river network of Southern Vietnam, rich nature, and open and hospitable indigenous people.

Located in Tiền Giang province within the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam, Cái Bè is a riverside town with a distinctive ecological system in the network of canals and rivers of southern Vietnam. The area boasts abundant natural resources, and its people are known for their simplicity and hospitality.

Historically, this region served as the administrative, economic, and political center of South Vietnam, known as “Cái Bè Dinh” (1732-1757) and later as Long Hồ Đình. Today, Cái Bè is recognized as an important agricultural distribution hub, particularly for tropical fruits, serving both the nation and the surrounding region.

Visitors to Cái Bè should not miss the opportunity to explore its floating markets, where fruits, goods, vegetables, and even seafood are traded. These markets attract not only locals from the Mekong Delta but also visitors from other parts of Vietnam. While the exact origins of Cái Bè’s floating markets remain unclear, it is believed that they emerged during the 17th and 18th centuries as the delta region developed.

People come here to purchase products from local traders and transport them to mainland markets for resale. Generally, most floating markets begin early in the morning and continue until before noon.

For the best experience, consider staying 1-2 nights in Vĩnh Long or spending a full day on a boat tour in Cái Bè. This provides a wonderful opportunity to discover the fascinating life along the Mekong River.

During your journey, you can not only visit the floating markets but also explore charming small islands like An Bình Island. Additionally, interacting with local residents will give you practical insights into their fishing and livelihood techniques.

After rowing a boat on the river, travelers can enjoy the homestay atmosphere, stroll around fruit orchards, sample local dishes, and immerse themselves in ancient stories. Following that, visitors can explore Cái Bè Fruit Garden, the largest fruit garden in the delta region, offering the delightful flavors of tropical fruits.

During the fruit orchard visit, guests can pick ripe fruits directly from the trees and savor them.
